Changing your device or contact number when using MFA
When the mobile device, contact number, browser or machine you used to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app for MFA changes, you will need to update your details to ensure you can still access your account and applications.
Important: You will need to keep your old phone to hand to do this.
- Follow the instructions for setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app, to set up your new device
- You will need to authenticate your sign in through MFA using your old phone or one of the additional backup methods set up previously
- In your browser, navigate to https://aka.ms/mfasetup and sign in, enter the two digits displayed on your phone to remove your old device. Find the appropriate option in the list provided and select delete. Please be aware that the correct option is not always immediately obvious.
- Remember to set your default method of authentication.
The Microsoft Authenticator app will now be set up on your new device.
