Jobs portal: Accessibility
Cardiff University is committed to making its websites and mobile applications accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to the Infinite BrassRing website and mobile application, VPAT® Version 2.4Rev. This is a third-party application which, for our specific use case, is commonly referred to as the Cardiff University jobs portal, or the Cardiff University online recruitment service.
Compliance status
This application is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version [2.1 or 2.2] AA standard, due to the non-compliance(s) and/or the exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
Issues with WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text
This ensures visual text, including text-based controls can be scaled so that they can be read directly by users with visual impairments without using assistive technology such as a screen magnifier. Text must be able to be resized up to 200 percent without loss of content or function.
- When zooming in at 250%:
- Footer links are no longer available. ‘Job Search, Cardiff Home’, ‘Sign In’ and ‘Choose your sign in option’ must instead be accessed via the Hamburger menu.
Issues with WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow
A lack of responsive web design limits users from enlarging text on a website and reading it within a single column without scrolling in more than one direction. Issues also hinder viewing the page on a mobile device, with some content and links being cut off from view or inaccessible to the user.
- When zooming in at 400% or viewing in mobile view (320x256):
- Footer links are no longer available. ‘Job Search, Cardiff Home’, ‘Sign In’ and ‘Choose your sign in option’ must instead be accessed via the Hamburger menu.
- The ‘Cardiff University Staff and Applicant Privacy Notice’ at the bottom of the page is partly cut off. Users need to hover over the ellipsis to view the full link name.
- When accessing a job listing directly from the search results, the ‘back’ button (which leads to search results) is no longer available.
- Timetables utilised across the portal are cut off and content is hidden.
Issues with WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum)
Elements must have sufficient colour contrast. Poor colour contrast makes it difficult for someone with sight loss to see the content properly. If there is a big difference between the background and foreground colours it should be much easier to see the difference between them.
- Colour contrast issues with elements:
- When select elements are opened, the ‘Select Question’ option does not have sufficient colour contrast (both when focused on and when not focused on).
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 30 July 2024.
Cardiff University’s use of the Infinite BrassRing application was the subject of an independent audit by the Government Digital Service, on behalf of the Minister of the Cabinet Office, on 17 April 2024.
Cardiff University has worked with the third-party supplier ‘Infinite Talent’ to implement a number of accessibility fixes and improvements highlighted within the audit, and will continue to work with said supplier to fix the issues highlighted in this accessibility statement and any future audits, both internal and externally organised.
The statement was last reviewed on 30 July 2024.
