HCT393 - Transforming Care, Systems and Services through Leadership
This module is currently being reviewed, so its contents may change for 2024/25 entry.
This Master's level module aims to provide health professionals wishing to practise at an advanced level and beyond with the specific theory and knowledge to lead effectively in a range of contexts and to develop new roles and services.
The module aims to prepare practitioners to lead in increasingly changing healthcare systems through promoting an awareness of the current challenges facing health services; the importance of clinical and corporate governance; factors influencing organisational change and strategies and approaches to transform care, services and systems.
Distance learning
There are four and a half days of taught face-to-face study. However, the module requires that a notional 300 hours of study are completed, in relation to the online distance-learning element of the module.
The focus of the module on distance learning will allow participants to continue in employment and study in their locality.
Online learning activities are designed to enable participants to utilise their practice experiences as the basis for learning. It will also enable students to gain rich and varied insights from engaging in online forums with peers from a range of diverse backgrounds and disciplines. In this way, learning becomes relevant and meaningful on an individual level.
Critical thinking, complex decision-making and problem-solving skills will be promoted, all with a focus on practice improvement. Ultimately the module aims to provide the knowledge and theory to enable participants to transform practice through an awareness of the skills and theory of leadership, thereby enabling them to identify what safe, high-quality, efficient care services are.
