HCT341 - Cardio-Respiratory Care: Theory to Practice

The aim of this module is to provide you with an opportunity to develop a critical understanding of cardio-respiratory practice applicable to your specific role.

It will cover biology, physiology and pathophysiology of the human cardiorespiratory system at an advanced level to encourage you to critically explore your own practice.

The module is designed to encourage inter-disciplinary networking and discussion. This module provides the student Professions’ Careers with evidence to support the 'Clinical practice' pillar related to Modernising Allied Health in Wales - A post registration framework’ (NHS Wales 2016).

On completion of the module a student should be able to:

Describe in detail the structure and function of the cardiorespiratory system in health and understanding of the physical principles and methods of measurement at an advanced level.
Based upon the knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of healthy subjects critically evaluate cardiorespiratory dysfunction and the presenting problems and their underlying causes in relation to anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, pathophysiology and psychology.
Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the assessment and management of cardiorespiratory dysfunction based upon contemporary literature and evidence.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the principles of evidence based practice and the mechanisms for its implementation and evaluation.
