HCT350 - Complex decision making

This module is aimed at health care professionals working in, or preparing for, roles at an advanced or higher level of practice.

The module objectives focus on providing opportunities for you to develop and advance your skills in consultation, assessment, diagnostic reasoning and decision making within your field of practice and to work effectively with increasingly complex health care needs and systems of delivery.

You will have specific opportunities to develop your knowledge base and decision-making abilities together with planning, implementing and evaluating complex care.

A number of key skills have been identified which include:

  • making professionally autonomous decisions
  • assessing needs using highly developed knowledge and skills
  • using decision making and problem-solving skills (Royal College of Nursing (RCN) 2010).

Learning outcomes are intrinsically linked to your sphere of practice and may relate to an individual patient or a group of patients in conditions characterised by complexity.
