Associate Lecturer Scheme

Our Associate Lecturer Scheme provides an opportunity for clinical practitioners to work for a prestigious university and become involved with the education of future healthcare professionals whist remaining in their clinical post.

If you're a clinical healthcare professional with an interest in academia, you can apply to spend up to two days a week with us on secondment from your clinical role. You may engage with a range of our activities, for example, teaching, research and scholarly activity.

You will be supported throughout your secondment by a line manger, an academic mentor and the Scheme Manager.

Students, staff and Associate Lecturers alike herald the scheme as a success. The inclusion of up-to-date clinical knowledge in lectures contributes significantly to the provision of excellent healthcare training, and students enjoy enhanced confidence and clinical credibility in the workplace as a result of their work with practicing healthcare professionals.

Joining the scheme provides an exciting opportunity to develop a range of skills within a Russell Group university. Some Associate Lecturers have become lecturers within the School, whilst others have used the opportunity to develop their skills and improve their practice.

I wanted my career to develop within education and the Associate Lecture Scheme was an ideal taster for working within Higher Education.
