Namibia
This project is about developing nurse leadership in Namibia.
It is funded by a Wales for Africa Grant and is a country wide project which has several elements:
- A buddying scheme between student nurses in Cardiff and student nurses at the University of Namibia. Action learning sets allow for exchange of ideas with a focus on leadership situations.
- The development of leadership competencies and resources for teaching nursing students in both institutions.
- A buddying scheme between qualified nurses in Namibia and qualified nurses in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to share experiences and challenges associated with leading nursing in both countries.
- The development and co-production of a leadership programme between Namibia and Cardiff to be delivered across three regions of Namibia to qualified nurses.
- A train the trainer programme so that Namibian nurses can deliver the leadership programme themselves.
Reach
The project includes 40 student nurses (20 in each country) and 40 qualified nurses (20 in each country) in the buddying scheme. The leadership programme will train 60 qualified nurses and 15 train the trainers.
Impact
The project is currently being implemented and change is yet to be evaluated.
