COVID-19 Critical Care Training

CC2

HCARE has provided training to over 700 NHS staff from the Cardiff and Vale and Aneurin Bevan University Health Boards, to support the COVID-19 crisis.

The Head of School was approached by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) to deliver a training programme and teaching was confirmed with Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. Training was offered in a flexible way but consists of two-full days of teaching and simulation that covers areas such as safety procedures, airway assessment, and ventilation and cardiovascular assessment.

Nursing academics and clinical skills tutors have been leading on refresher skills training for returners to the workforce, health care support workers and third year nursing students in partnership with the Cardiff and Vale and the Aneurin Bevan University Hospital Board.

Physiotherapy academics, Gary Morris and Sarah Pierrepoint, have provided Respiratory Training for staff from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and volunteers planning to work in CVUHB. Sarah Pierrepoint has also led on the development of online learning materials to support staff redeployment and these are available to staff across all the UHBs in Wales.

We recognise our professional responsibility, especially in times like these and we want to support our incredible NHS workforce and colleagues in whatever way we can. The staff from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are really stepping up to the mighty challenges that this virus brings.
