Engagement and Civic Mission
We believe in sharing the relevance of our research to deliver transformative thinking, contributing positively to wider society and the economy.
We enrich our community locally and globally through exciting and meaningful engagement activity, harnessing the power of our disciplines and the humanities to spark ideas and help shape the wider world.
This has real impact across sectors, be that cultural or social, medical or public. Recognition in the academic sphere is clear too, in prestigious prizes like the Emerald Real World Impact Award where work on dementia communications features.
Our focus on health communication has resulted in diverse strands making an impact in communities globally.
DrawingOut has given people new tools to express themselves through metaphorical pictures through simple step-by-step drawing exercises. In Africa, our collaborations with Africaid charity Whizzkids United has created comics booklets to help young Africans understand and protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and Ebola. Our development of a visual communication toolkit is helping people with a learning disability to express emotions and preferences, share news and take part in community decisions.
In the Changing Attitudes in Public Discourse project, our philosophers are developing and testing practical interventions to reduce arrogance in debate. We aim to bring together the general public and academics, journalists and policymakers to explore the changing nature of public debate. We welcome contributions via the blog or email capd@cardiff.ac.uk with your thoughts.
Sharing latest insights from experts is also at the heart of Cardiff BookTalk. Lovingly curated by our English Literature scholars, this free Book Club with a difference shares fresh perspectives on an eclectic range of literature, from classics to brand new fiction.
Whatever your interest, we value all input. Join us in any of our creative-critical platforms as we share expertise and scholarship. Help spark new research as together we improve social and economic conditions.
