Extracurricular opportunities
Students can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities within the School of Engineering which build their skills, contribute to society, look good on a CV and provide a productive break from study.
There are plenty of teams and projects that you can get involved in while studying here.
Cardiff Racing
Cardiff Racing represents the University in Formula Student, which is a global student competition run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
Our student-led competition teams design, build and race a range of fuel, electric and autonomous vehicles each year, competing in the UK and worldwide.
Jordan and Ellie share their experiences with the Cardiff Racing team.
Shahab tells us about being Team Leader of the Autonomous Racing team.
Engineers Without Borders
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a global charity whose mission is to collaborate with disadvantaged communities in order to improve their quality of life through education and the implementation of sustainable engineering projects.
Helen Aries, Mechanical Engineering with a Year in Industry, shares her experience with Engineers Without Borders.
Mothers of Africa
Mothers of Africa is a Medical Educational Charity that trains medical staff in Sub-Saharan Africa to care for mothers during pregnancy and childbirth.
Our students support a project at a remote medical outpost in Shiyala Village, situated in the Chongwe District in Zambia.
Over the past years, we have:
- designed and installed a solar classroom
- provided lighting and power to the remaining buildings in the medical outpost complex
- installed an energy data logger to gather information on how solar energy is being used.
