Red Dragon Scholarship Terms and Conditions

  • Last updated:

1. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is a £3,000 award applied to students entering year 1 of a full-time, campus-based Postgraduate Taught Masters programme. It is applied to your first year of study only.

  • 1.1. This will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount only and cannot be used in place of any required deposit. No cash alternative is available.
  • 1.2. Students must be domiciled in Mainland China and be classified as an international fee-paying student.
  • 1.3. Domicile is defined as where you have been ordinarily resident for three years or longer before the start of the course. This does not include where you are living for study purposes should you be studying outside of the place where you are otherwise ordinarily resident. See UKCISA for more information

2. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is for entry into Cardiff University in the autumn semester of academic year 2025/26 only and cannot be used in any other year of entry.

  • 2.1. If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will not be transferred. However, you will be eligible to apply for scholarships applicable for 2026/27 entry.

3. Where an applicant does not meet the deadlines specified in relation to the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship, the award will be withdrawn.

4. Applicants who are notified that they have been awarded the scholarship need to ensure they meet all deadlines stated in the scholarship offer. This includes paying their course deposit within 2 weeks of the date of the scholarship award offer, if the deposit has not already been paid. Failure to do so will lead to the scholarship offer being withdrawn. This deadline cannot be extended in any circumstances.

5. Applicants who are not successful in being awarded a scholarship in their first round, will be eligible to apply again in any subsequent scholarship round.

6. Applicants who are in receipt of any other external scholarship, bursary, funding or discount will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

7. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is available for full-time and Cardiff campus-based programmes only.

8. You must be confirmed as an Overseas Student for fee paying purposes (this information is contained in your offer letter). If you are assessed as eligible to pay Home fees as the result of a fee query, your fee status will be amended to Home and you will not be eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship.

9. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is only available to self-funded students.

  • 9.1. If you are in receipt of funding (consisting of either tuition fees or tuition fees and living costs) from an external body which will be invoiced by the University for fees (such as Government, charity or a private organisation) you are not eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship. Students in receipt of educational loans are eligible for the award.

10. Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, or funding from Cardiff University, and are successful in their application to the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship 2025 scheme, will only be able to choose one of the awarded scholarships, bursaries or funding.

  • 10.1 Where an applicant has applied through a Cardiff University partnership institution, and is eligible for a partner discount, point 10 will be exempted. Under these circumstances, offer holders can apply for the Red Dragon Scholarship and if successful, the discount will be applied to the remainder of the tuition fees once the scholarship has been awarded.

11. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is not available to students who are initially awarded the scholarship but following enrolment at the University, subsequently transfer to an academic programme which is not eligible for the award of the scholarship.

12. You must be able to satisfy all financial requirements as part of your visa application for study in the UK. You should not be solely relying on receiving the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship to meet the UKVI financial requirements. Further information on UKVI financial requirements for visa applications can be found online on the Visas and immigration page.
