Research at the School of Dentistry
Our thriving and innovative research culture has one overarching aim: to produce high quality, impactful research that addresses key global challenges around oral and general health.
Our various research groups are all working to make the world a better place, from preventing tooth decay in children and making dentistry more patient friendly to - believe it or not - reducing violent crime on the streets of Cardiff and changing attitudes towards alcohol.
We work in close partnership with local, national and international organisations and stakeholders to seek out, and address, important questions to improve the world around us.
In the most recent Research Excellence Framework 2021, our research secured an overall quality position of 16th (out of 90) which, alongside the volume of the Unit’s research, delivers a position of 4th (out of 90) for Research Power (an indicator of the scale and quality of our submission).
Ethical Permissions for Research via the Dental School Research Ethics Committee: All of our research involving human participants, material or data is subject to formal ethical review and approval. If you're a current student or member of staff, you can find more information about this on our Staff Intranet and Student Intranet.
