Find out how to apply and accept an offer for a place on the English for University Study Programme.
What you will need
Before you can apply online, you will need the following information:
- Your passport (to ensure that the name you enter during your application exactly matches how it is written in your passport)
- A scanned copy of your English language test results. The name on your English language certificate must also match the name on your passport
- Your Cardiff University applicant number from your academic offer to study on one of our undergraduate or postgraduate courses. If you have not yet applied for an academic course, you will be asked to create a new account.
If you don’t yet have all the documents you need, you can still apply and submit your supporting documents when they become available.
Apply online
To apply for the English for University Study Programme online, you should use your existing Cardiff University username and password that you received when you applied for your academic programme. If you have not yet applied for an academic programme, then you should create a new account to apply for the English for University Study Programme.

Receiving your offer
Most applications will receive a decision within ten working days. If you're successful, you’ll receive an email from the Academic Registry confirming your offer. This email will include your student number, please include this whenever you contact us.
Unconditional offer
This means you have been offered a place on the course, now all you need to do is accept the offer.
Conditional offer
This means you have been offered a place, but we haven't received one of your supporting documents or you still need to complete the English language qualification required to gain admission to the University.
Your offer letter will clearly state what evidence needs to be supplied. Once we have all the necessary documents, your offer will change to unconditional.
Accepting your offer
You'll need to accept your offer via our online application system, SIMS. We'll send your username and password. If you don't receive your username and password please contact us.
