Promoting and developing the art form of performance storytelling.
Beyond the Border run an ongoing programme of outreach activities, linking to the organisation's main event, the biennial Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival.
Activities
They are currently undertaking audience development activities with various target groups including children in Communities First areas of Barry, Deaf people in South Wales, the Indian community in Cardiff and students and staff at the University of South Wales.
They are planning a ‘Sword in the Stone’ project to be held in Merthyr in which young people will work with an experimental archaeologist to forge an iron sword out of stone, using iron-age smelting techniques. Participants will also work with storytellers to discover a wealth of stories about the Blacksmith through the ages, linking to South Wales’ industrial heritage. Project participants will have the opportunity to use the skills they develop to make another sword as part of the 2016 Beyond the Border festival and take part in a culminating ceremony at the festival in July 2016 at St Donats Castle, Vale of Glamorgan. Please see separate project brief for more details.
