The Huggard Centre is working with award-winning street artist Kyle Legall and Butetown Youth Pavilion on an exciting new initiative.
Aims
To utilise art as a means of helping homeless people gain new skills that could lead to real employment opportunities with life-changing consequences.
Kyle Legall has produced much of Cardiff’s most eye catching and recognised urban art and commissioned graffiti, and his multi-disciplinary skills in animation, music, storytelling and graphic design make him an ideal collaborator for the Huggard Centre’s plan to develop in-house workshops in art techniques for the Centre’s users.
The project
The ‘SM-ART’ Initiative’ aims to provide workshops where Centre users and Youth Pavilion members can develop their creative skills through technique-based workshops led by Kyle, to build a team of street artists who will paint street hoardings across Cardiff to highlight the Huggard ‘message’ on homelessness. The first of a number of workshop promoted engagement of the client group and those involved were able to learn and practice contemporary art skills via a much needed break in their daily routine.
