Science, technology and risk

Science and technology studies is a key area in British sociology and we are one of the leading centres of excellence in Europe.

Methodologically, we focus on qualitative approaches, including ethnographic studies of gravity wave physics, biomedical regulation and genetic clinics, as well as methods involving social media analysis.

We have particular interests in debates around scientific expertise; medical and biomedical technologies; environmental and socio-cultural change and theoretical debates around digital sociology.
