RNA-seq
Complex mixtures of RNA molecules from cells and tissues are converted into cDNA and then subjected to Illumina NGS. The millions of short sequences derived from such RNA-seq experiments can then be bioinformatically analysed in various ways: sequences can be assembled into contigs to generate de novo transcriptomes; sequences can be both counted and compared to genomic references to analyse gene expression levels and mRNA splicing.
Over the last 12 months, we have successfully generated RNA-seq datasets from a variety of animal, plant and model-organism sources. In addition to sequencing, the GRH technician offers manual RNA-seq library preps using Illumina TruSeq reagents, and we will be able to offer automated libary preps for up to 24 samples via the Illumina NeoPrep in the near future.
