Flow cytometer – cell analyser
The BD FACS Canto flow cytometer provides an efficient, easy-to-use yet powerful six colour benchtop analyser.
It supports a broad range of research applications, being particularly suited for rare event analysis with its high speed, great sensitivity, and minimal sample-to-sample carryover.
Availability can be checked with the online Canto booking form. Users will be charged from the start of the booking slot. The FACS machines are available for booking between 09:00 and 17:00 and the facility can only be accessed with a swipe card and key. A minimum of 24 hours notice must be given for cancellations to avoid penalty charges.
Internal users
- Training: £15
- Without operator: £20
- With operator: £30
- Cancellation fee (less than 24 hour notice): £15
- Offline analysis: £15
External users
Individuals must be trained on this machine prior to use. Training takes approximately one hour. Once trained users can use the machine unassisted.
User resources
This machine can not be used for bacterial cells, all samples need to be sterile or fixed.
Consumables
It is important that cells are filtered before using the FACS machines in order to avoid cell clumps sticking to the interior of the instruments. Below is a list of filters that are currently used.
