Feodor M. Borodich graduated from Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University in 1979. He was awarded Diploma in Mechanics and Applied Mathematics (equiv. to M.Sc.), and later degrees of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (equiv. to Ph.D.), and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (D.Sc.) by the same University in 1979, 1984 and 1990 respectively.

In 1975-1985 he studied at Department of Constructions of All-Union Extra-Mural Civil Engineering Institute (Open University, Moscow) in order to improve his knowledge in Engineering. He was awarded Diploma with distinction in Civil Engineering (equiv. to MEngSc) in 1985. In 1995 he received a teaching certificate (grade: Professor in Applied Mathematics) from the State Council of Russian Federation for Higher Education.

In 1979-1987 he worked at Division of Reliability of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Steel Structures Design (Moscow). In 1987-1995 he taught various courses in Mechanics and Applied Mathematics at several Technical Universities in Moscow.

In 1995-2001 he held various research and teaching positions at several universities including DAMTP, University of Cambridge; Institute of Mechanics, University of Hanover (Germany); and Centre of Mathematical Research (Barcelona, Spain). His research visits were supported by various grants including the Royal Society (London) and Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation. In 2001-2003 he was a visiting professor at Northwestern University (USA).

In 2004-2008 he worked as Cardiff Professorial Fellow.
