My PhD is a piece of applied philosophy. It explores the use of John Rawlsâ difference principle as a test for social justice in contemporary social policy. I am using the Housing (Wales) Bill as a case study to test whether the policy does indeed deliver on commitments to social justice. I hope to show an insight into the use of Rawlsâ principle as a tangible policy test, and also comment on the Welsh Governmentâs commitment to social justice.
My general academic interests lie in using philosophical theories to explore questions of justice in contemporary society, with an emphasis on engaging with stakeholders. I currently work for newsdirect wales, a political monitoring company, and have a particular interest in the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Bill and the impact of welfare reform. In previous work I have looked at the impact of welfare reform on effective agency, including conducting research in frontline homelessness organisations.
