Welsh Government (WG) funded education
The Welsh Government currently funds educational resources for practitioners which cover the following subjects:
- Wales Glaucoma Referral Refinement
- Learning Disabilities
- Wales PEARS (Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Scheme)
- Cataract Services.
Practitioners who are based in Wales and are accredited to provide the EHEW service should contact WOPEC for further information. These materials were developed in conjunction with WOPEC.
Eye Health Examinations Wales (EHEW) and Low Vision Service Wales (LVSW)
The Welsh Government also currently provide funds to provide education and training in Eye Health Examinations Wales (EHEW) and Low Vision Service Wales (LVSW) accreditations. To find out more about the EHEW and LVSW please contact wecs@cardiff.ac.uk.

Educational material for optometrists in England
Selected educational materials are free for any optometrist in England whose Local Optical Committee (LOC) contributes to the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU) levy.
The materials cover the following subjects:
- Glaucoma
- Cataract
- MECS (Minor Eye Conditions Service) formerly known as PEARS
- Low Vision
- Learning Disabilities.
Practitioners who are members of an LOC should contact their LOC directly for their relevant course access code. These codes can be entered into the 'PROMO CODE' section of the WOPEC website. The course will then be made available for you online. A separate code is needed for each course.
These materials were developed in conjunction with WOPEC.
