RSC poster prize for Cardiff research student

On 18th February at the RSC Organic Division South-West Regional Meeting at Reading University, the PhD student Richard Edwards from the Wirth research group won a poster award for his poster [18F]F-DOPA Synthesis with Hypervalent Iodine Compounds. He received the prize from the president of the RSC Organic Chemistry section Prof. Dr. Ray C. F. Jones (pictured below). Richard investigated the synthesis of a novel class of hypervalent diaryliodonium precursors for the synthesis of F-DOPA, a PET-tracer molecule very useful for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. First parts of his synthesis have just been published in Eur. J. Org. Chem.
