Professor Sam Salek receives Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyne Medal

Professor Sam Salek has been awarded the medal of the Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyne, in recognition for his outstanding international collaboration in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
Professor Salek was presented with the medal by the president of the Czech Medical Association, Professor Jaroslav Blahos, on 17 October 2013.
Jan Evangelista Purkyne, a 19th Century Czech anatomist and physiologist, was responsible for a number of important discoveries, such as the Purkinje fibres which carry electrical impulses across the heart, and the neuronal Purkinje cells of the cerebellum. He was also responsible for the name 'protoplasm', describing the fluidic contents of cells.
Professor Salek has also recently been awarded the fellowship award from the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy.
