Building on the success of last year’s professional development programme, Cardiff University are delighted to welcome a second cohort of 52 university mid and senior-level leaders from across China.
Delivered by senior staff from across the University, the programme is commissioned by the China Scholarship Council and is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015, in the presence of China’s Vice Premier, Madam LIU Yandong during her visit in Wales.
The programme includes tours of Research Centres and facilities within the University and visits to other universities and Welsh organisations, including the Welsh Assembly.
“Furthering collaboration between Wales and China”
Professor Nora de Leeuw hosted the welcome dinner for the delegation and said: “We are delighted to welcome you all from so many distinguished universities from across China. I look forward to nurturing new relationships and partnerships with you and furthering collaboration between Wales and China.”
Professor Wen Jiang, Dean of International joined the welcome event and added his thanks to China Scholarship Council and the Chinese Embassy for their support to the programme and wished all delegates well with their studies.
An ‘excellent choice’
The welcome dinner was also attended by Mr Xiaopeng Hu, Second Secretary in the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy.
In his opening remarks he highlighted Britain’s reputation as one of the top three most innovative countries in the world and it’s universities as contributing to this with their high research quality and teaching. He thanked Cardiff University for developing the programme and described it as an ‘excellent choice’ for the delegates to undertake their learning.
The University has a long-standing relationship with China with many formal academic links and strategic partnership agreements with universities across the country for both research collaboration and student exchange.
The University’s partnership with the China Scholarship Council stretches back several years and has seen scholars progress from postgraduate studies into senior academic positions.
