A Cardiff University engineering student has won the Wales Emerging Engineer Award from the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Syed Muaaz-Us-Salaam was presented with the award, which celebrates the best research, innovation and presentation skills of the ICE’s student and young graduate members, at the ICE Awards Dinner on June 16th.
The award was presented in recognition of Syed’s research paper entitled ‘Automated Compliance Checking of UK Building Regulations’, and a presentation he delivered to the ICE explaining his research. This is the same paper for which he also won this year’s David Douglas Award from the South Wales Institute of Engineers.
Syed conducted his research as part of his project for the Cardiff Undergraduate Researchers Programme (CUROP) over a period of two months last summer, under the supervision of Dr Thomas Beach, when he was in the final year of his BEng Civil Engineering (Year in Industry) studies at the School of Engineering.
He is now in the first year of his PhD studies in the School of Engineering’s Geoenvironmental Research Centre.
