Role models and careers week inspires the people of Grangetown
30 Mai 2017
On 16th May Community Gateway launched a Role Models and Careers week in Grangetown aimed at inspiring and mentoring people to achieve their career goals.
In collaboration with Cardiff University's Human Resources and Careers departments, Community Gateway hosted a number of events at Grange Pavilion including an evening brainstorming enterprise skills and discussing entrepreneurship and a chance to receive some professional help with CV's, job applications and interview skills.
On Saturday a group of people were then taken to visit the Hadyn Ellis building at Cardiff University where Dr Emma Yhnell spoke to them about what it's like to be a scientist and taught them about the functional areas of the brain using a series of brain games and pictures of brains.
Ali Abdi, Community Gateway's Facilities and Partnership Manager said:
"I'm really passionate about this event. Many people in the area wanted something like this and it is brilliant that Community Gateway and staff from Human Resources and Careers could make it happen. Everyone involved was amazing and residents were very responsive to Cardiff University's commitment in the community"
The week was a huge success and has helped to raise the aspirations and expectations of over 100 people in Grangetown, providing them with free advice from professional people on how to achieve their dream career or study at university. It is hoped that Role Models and Careers week will become an annual event with an ever growing programme of events to inspire people.
