Complete University Guide 2018

For the second consecutive year, Cardiff University’s School of Optometry and Vision Sciences have been ranked ‘Number One’ in the UK for Optometry, according to the Complete University Guide 2018.

The Complete University Guide has been publishing university and related league tables online since 2007. The Subject League Tables use four measures: Student Satisfaction, Research Assessment, Entry Standards and Graduate Prospects.

Professor Marcela Votruba, Head of School said, “I am absolutely delighted that our School has been ranked again the top Optometry School in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2018. This result sits perfectly alongside the consistent highest ranking of our students in their national Professional Examinations. It is fantastic recognition of all our Staff at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, who work hard to ensure that our students in Cardiff have the highest standard of learning experience.”

Drew Johnson, a final year student at the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences said:
“The Optometry and Vision Science programme at Cardiff University is second to none. The quality of research being conducted in the department is outstanding, and that manifests itself in the quality of teaching; I always felt as though I was surrounded by professors, lecturers and supervisors that are truly passionate about what they do. As this is my second degree, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of one on one time with supervisors for feedback and questions. This, paired with being in a facility with up to date technology, allowed for an applied and hands-on approach to clinical teaching and training, ensuring we were prepared and confident to begin our new careers as optometrists. There is an atmosphere of togetherness amongst Cardiff University optometry students, with everyone helping each other along the way, each wanting the other to succeed.”

The Complete University Guide is compiled from Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) data on university entry standards, student-staff ratios, spending on academic services, spending on facilities, good honours degrees, graduate prospects, completion and overseas student enrolments.
