Cardiff Professor Appointed as Children’s Commissioner for Wales

Cardiff
University's Professor Sally Holland has today been appointed as the new
Children's Commissioner for Wales.
Currently the Director and founder of CASCADE – The Children's Social Care
Research and Development Centre based in the Cardiff School of Social Sciences,
Sally will take up her new role in April.
The Children's Commissioner acts as an independent champion for children and young people, advocating their interests and making sure their voices are heard at a local, national and international level.
Announcing the appointment, Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, said "I am delighted Professor Sally Holland will be taking up the position as the next Children's Commissioner for Wales and warmly welcome her to this important role. I am confident her range of experience in social work and children's rights, and her proven commitment to empowering children and young people, will make her a strong ambassador on their behalf. "
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Amanda Coffey, Head of the Cardiff School of Social Sciences, said: "I have had the privilege of working with Sally for many years and I know she will be an effective champion for children in Wales. Through her professional and academic roles, Sally has been a strong advocate for children and young people. Her work with CASCADE has ensured that children's voices and experiences are taken seriously. I am extremely proud that Sally has been appointed as the Children's Commissioner for Wales, and wish her every success in her new role".
