New members for the International Advisory Board

Cardiff Business School has grown its International Advisory Board, welcoming three new members.

The distinguished new appointments – Professor Emerita Dame Teresa Rees, Mrs Tracy Myhill and Chief Constable Jeff Farrar - will add to the Board’s overall knowledge base and diversity.

Established in 2008, Cardiff Business School’s International Advisory Board, is made up senior professionals and business leaders. It advises the Dean on the School’s strategic direction and supports it’s academic, social and economic ambitions.

The new appointments will provide valuable new insights and ideas, as well as expert, thoughtful and constructive challenges to established ways of working, and thinking. Collectively, this will inform and enhance the School’s development in line with its progressive Public Value mission.

• Professor Emerita Dame Teresa Rees, from Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences, was awarded a Damehood in 2015 for services to the social sciences. This honour acknowledged her long academic and research career, focused on contributing to evidence based policy to address social challenges such as: gender equality in education; women and science; equal pay; and gender mainstreaming in Higher Education and funding. Dame Teresa was previously principal investigator for the Women Adding Value to the Economy (WAVE) project and an Equal Opportunities commissioner.
• Tracy Myhill has worked in the NHS in Wales for more than 30 years, beginning her career in 1984. In 2014 she became Chief Executive of the Welsh Ambulance Service and set about transforming the organisation, improving the quality and efficiency of the service. Tracy is passionate about improving health and health services and is committed to partnership working, with trade unions and other stakeholders, to achieve positive outcomes. Her impact in areas of health and social justice have resulted in several accolades including receiving the Institute of Directors (IOD) Wales Public Sector Director of the Year award and being awarded Stonewall Wales’ Role Model of the Year.
• Jeff Farrar is the Chief Constable of Gwent Police and the National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for crime statistics and crime recording. He is also Chair of the Welsh Chief Officer Group, leads for Wales on Protecting Vulnerable People, Performance Management, Human Trafficking and Chairs the Welsh Government Effective Services for Vulnerable People Board. In a distinguished career, Jeff has planned and commanded some of the most high profile events in the UK including the NATO summit (2014), two FA Cup and Carling finals, and The Ryder Cup (2010). He was previously seconded to National Police Training and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary as part of the team that inspected the police service on equality and diversity after the death of Stephen Lawrence.

Professor Martin Kitchener, Dean of Cardiff Business School, said of the new appointments: “It is a great pleasure to welcome our new International Advisory Board members. Their expertise, their passion and their commitment to social and economic improvement is evident. Each has made considerable contributions to provoking change in their respective fields and communities. I am grateful that they have decided to align with our Public Value mission, advising on its development and advocating its importance.

“Our International Advisory Board meetings are lively affairs and provide invaluable opportunities to crowdsource ideas, debate strategy, discuss development practices and combine expertise to deliver positive outcomes for the School, our community and our stakeholders. I look forward to Teresa, Tracy and Jeff’s future contributions.”

The International Advisory Board, is chaired by Cardiff Airport Chairman Roger Lewis, and meets quarterly. Membership now stands at 30 and the most recent meeting took place on Tuesday 31 January 2017.
