Green Impact

Staff from across the University are being urged to sign-up to a scheme designed to raise environmental awareness and help cut the University's carbon footprint.

For the second year running, Cardiff University is taking part in Green Impact – an environmental accreditation and awards scheme run by the National Union of Students (NUS).

The scheme is designed to bring staff and students together to help green University campuses, curriculums and communities and award them for their efforts.  

Dr Katrina Henderson from the University's Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Unit said: "The aim of Green Impact is to raise awareness of environmental issues at a local level, reduce the University's carbon footprint and engage the University community in a sustainability event.

"Green Impact is a real opportunity of getting back to basics. It would be wonderful to see all Schools and Departments engaging with this worthwhile initiative"

This years' scheme was officially launched at the Haydn Ellis building by Odette Wills from NUS Wales. The launch heard from Ruth Lovell from the University's Sustainable Places Research Institute who achieved a Gold award last year and from the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elizabeth Treasure who spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor's Office who have signed-up to take part.    

On completion, teams submit a workbook outlining their work. Workbooks are then audited by students who have been specially trained to do so as part of the scheme.

Successful teams are presented with their award by the Vice-Chancellor at an awards ceremony in May.
