Rural urban relations

A new book, edited by Professor Terry Marsden considers the evolving relationships between rural and urban areas.

Metropolitan Ruralities brings together academics from across Europe to consider the changing relationship of rural and urban areas.  The book gives an updated approach to understanding rural areas, and their role in the context of the current environmental challenges we face.

Case studies in the book are presented which cover a range of areas under the topic of metropolitan ruralities, including ideas on how to transform the current carbon–based economy into a post-carbon economy, and thoughts on how this can be achieved in reality.  Other areas covered include the trend for more urban based forms of agriculture and food strategies, exploration of innovative approaches to planning and governance for sustainable development.
