Bringing Katerina Cavalieri to life on stage

Soprano and composer Fleur de Bray will be performing the principal soprano role of Katerina Cavalieri in the National Theatre’s new production of Amadeus, Peter Shaffer’s iconic play.

The play, which premiered in 1979 and won multiple awards before being adapted into the Academy Award-winning film, tells the story of Antonio Salieri’s rivalry with Mozart in period Vienna. This new production is directed by Michael Longhurst and will feature live orchestral accompaniment by Southbank Sinfonia alongside live opera singing.

Fleur, who completed her undergraduate degree studies at Cardiff, is currently undertaking a PhD in Composition at the School of Music. Her role in Amadeus follows a string of other recent successes including making her Royal Opera House debut in 2015 in Will Todd’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (singing the roles of Bottle and Victorian), returning to Wonderland this summer as Bottle and Duchess, and singing the role of Clorinda in La Cenerentola for Opera Holland Park.
