Cardiff University ‘third in the world’ for public administration research
17 Medi 2014
Cardiff University's contribution to public administration research has been ranked third in the world, in a forthcoming edition of the International Public Management Journal.
Cardiff is ranked ahead of major U.S. competitors such as Harvard and Syracuse, and behind only Indiana and Georgia.
Researchers at Erasmus University ranked the performance of public administration research groups worldwide between 1999 and 2013, taking as their primary metric the number of articles published by each institution in the four top journals in the field.
Professor Hywel Thomas, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research, said: "I am delighted to see Cardiff's internationally-renowned public administration research recognised in this way. This is a real team effort, with contributions from a number of disciplines in The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and significant academic leadership from College PVC Professor George Boyne who was author or co-author (with ten different academic colleagues in Cardiff) of 35 of the journal articles that led to this ranking.
"Research in this area at Cardiff has always gained acclaim – for example the research group in the Business School was acknowledged as being world leading in the last RAE, on all three criteria of research quality (outputs, environment and esteem).
"It is this academic expertise that led recently to the Welsh Government's decision to locate the Public Policy Institute for Wales at Cardiff University, providing evidence to improve the policy process and putting our considerable research knowledge into practice."
