Visiting Professorship for Head of School
2 Awst 2016
Professor Rudolf Allemann has been appointed Visiting Professor at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, University of Manchester.
The appointment is set for a term of five years, from 1 July 2016 to 20 June 2021.
The Manchester Institute of Biotechnology focuses on interdisciplinary research between medicine, biology and the physical sciences. Areas of interest are medical biotechnology and therapeutics, biofuels and energy, and industrial biotechnology.
Professor Allemann is the Head of School and Distinguished Research Professor at the School of Chemistry, Cardiff University. His research interests focus on the relationship between the structure and function of enzymes, developing and applying chemical tools to probe biological processes in vitro and in live cells. Based on an understanding of enzymatic catalysis and mechanism Professor Allemann’s research group is developing tools that mimic Nature's reagents. This work relies on an interdisciplinary approach at the interface of chemistry, physical organic chemistry, biophysics, synthetic biology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology and medicinal chemistry and involves a wide range of techniques, which fits in well with the research aims and methods at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology.
