The best of Cardiff University's footballing talent will pit their skills against league newcomers, Newport County (Tuesday 24thSeptember) as they gear-up for the new season.
Newport County manager, Justin Edinburgh brings his squad to Cardiff University's Sport fields in Llanrumney as part of a new agreement which has secured the league newcomers use of Cardiff University's training facilities for the next two seasons.
"We are delighted to have hosted Newport County at Cardiff University's training facilities for last season," according to Stuart Vanstone, Cardiff University's Head of Sport.
"To mark their return to the football league and the need for excellent training facilities we have signed a new agreement that will see the County's first-team use our training facilities and pitches for the next two seasons.
"As part of this new agreement Justin Edinburgh has kindly agreed to bring his team to play Cardiff University students first team as we prepare for our season.
"We think this is a real win-win for both us and Newport County. Our students get a once in a lifetime chance to test their skills against professional players, while Newport County players get a chance to try and catch their manager's eye and secure a first team place," he added.
The game is being played to launch the partnership between Cardiff University and Newport County AFC with the University becoming Official Training Ground Partner.
County boss Justin Edinburgh said: "We are delighted to be entering into this agreement.
"The facilities for training at Llanrumney are as good as any at this level and it is an excellent base for us to work from.
"We are pleased to have secured this for at least the next two years."
Cardiff University's Sports Fields, just on the outskirts of Cardiff in Llanrumney, is a 33 acre outdoor sports facility boasting six football pitches, including five for winter and one for exclusive summer use.
Equipped with a Pavilion, it houses more than 20 changing rooms and a lounge area, has a professional meeting room with media facilities for coaching and conference needs. Other regular users of this facility include the Welsh Rugby Union, Newport-Gwent Dragons Rugby, Cardiff City FC and touring International rugby teams - most recently the Argentinean and Scottish Senior and Development Rugby squads.
