A member of the University's Enterprise Team has been named as one of the UK's top enterprise educators in a national award ceremony.
Neil Coles was announced as the winner of the Enterprise Educator category in the recent National Enterprise Educator Awards for his work in leading the University's 'enterprise and innovation in the curriculum' project.
The project aims to work with academic lecturing staff to enhance the focus on building an enterprise capability within research-led learning. Neil has become a practitioner and vocal supporter of this engaged way of learning, developing numerous programmes that have been used within compulsory, community and elective education.
Neil was presented with a trophy and cash prize by Richard Atfield from the Higher Education Academy who sponsored the award. Neil said: "I'm from a fabulous team who support innovative students and work with other staff to enable enterprise learning through their disciplines. I have to say a big thank you to the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education, Enterprise Educators UK and all Cardiff University staff who are individually helping to advance their students' enterprise capability through research-led teaching.
"I'm totally humbled by this award from the enterprise education community, and will now take some time to consider how best to spend the money, but you can be sure it'll advance the agenda in some way!"
The University's Enterprise Team is a student focused team that helps students, whatever their subject area, to develop their enterprise skills to give them the tools to spot opportunities and make things happen. Through a series of events, workshops, competitions and advice, students can develop their business or social enterprise ideas and gain new skills.
