Alison and Esther Visit Taiwan

Two members of the CUREMeDE team recently visited Taiwan to collaborate with the Chang Gung Medical Education Center at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou which is a short distance form Taipei.

Prof Alison Bullock and Dr Esther Muddiman received a very warm welcome from Prof Lee, Prof Lynn Monrouxe and her colleagues at Chang Gung. Esther presented an introductory workshop on Q-methodology to a very engaged audience of researchers and medical professionals.

With the vital help of Linna and Tung we were able to use translated versions of our Q-sort task, and we were delighted at the level of interest expressed by attendees. It was a great opportunity to think about how to apply the method in a different cultural setting.

Alison travelled to the south of Taiwan to visit the Chang Gung Kaohsiung Medical Center where she presented on technology enhanced learning, whilst Esther provided some one-to-one project support for researchers and medical staff at Linkou who were considering designing their own Q-sort studies. Later in the week Alison ran a session on writing abstracts for medical education research and provided some one-to-one sessions.

We also managed to visit some beautiful temples and sample the local cuisine and of course some oolong tea. Throughout our trip we were amazed by the kindness and enthusiasm of everyone at Chang Gung, and hope to be able to return.
