Get involved in Sustainability Week
24 Hydref 2013
A debate chaired by Griff Rhys Jones, a chance for staff to get involved in a volunteering project and bike workshops across the University are some of the events taking place during Sustainability Week.
Running from 4th-8th November 2013, Sustainability Week showcases the University's world-leading research and teaching in the field of sustainability, and aims to engage staff, students and the wider community in making a concerted and joined-up effort to reduce our impact on the planet by becoming more socially, economically, and culturally aware
This year's highlights include:
Mind the gap; meeting the energy challenge in the UK
Actor, author and comedian Griff Rhys Jones chairs a debate which will examine the issue of providing reliable, affordable, clean energy for current and future generations. The event starts at 6.30pm on Wednesday 6th November. Tickets are free but must be reserved.
Staff volunteering project at Plymouth Wood
Come and get involved in restoring one of Cardiff's beautiful woodlands, Plymouth Woods. Sandwiched between St Fagans and Ely, Plymouth Woods is one of Cardiff's best-kept secrets: an ancient woodland with beautiful walks and a host of wildlife in the city. Recently, the woods have been beset by fly-tipping and vandalism. Join us for a spot of clearing, litter-picking, or even conservation for the more green-fingered among you. Places are limited.
On your bike
Free bike servicing from Cycle Training Wales and free UV security marking from South Wales Police/Cardiff University Security is offered to staff and students on Thursday 7th November (Michael Griffiths Lecture Theatre, Heath Park, midday-3pm) and Friday 8th November (Main Building car park, midday-3pm). No booking needed, just turn up on the day.
Other events during the week include a fruit and veg co-op for staff to order bags of fruit, and vegetables, and the launch of the University's new Green Impact Awards. Visit the Sustainability Week pages for the schedule and more information. Other events will be added ahead of the week.
