Cardiff hosts Russell Group business school Deans

Professor Martin Kitchener and Cardiff Business School hosted the 9^th Russell Group Business School Deans Roundtable Discussion and Luncheon on 20 May 2016.

Arranged by the Chartered Association of Business Schools (Chartered ABS), the roundtable saw the Deans of Nottingham University Business School, Southampton University, Birmingham Business School, Queen Mary, University of London, Adam Smith Business School, University of Bristol School of Economics, Finance and Management, Said Business School, Oxford and Queen's Management School, gather at the Cardiff Business School Postgraduate Teaching Centre.

Chaired by Alliance Manchester Business School’s Professor Fiona Devine the roundtable agenda included a number of issues relating general Higher Education and specific business school challenges. It was also an opportunity to discuss the potential impact of Brexit ahead of the EU Referendum to be held on 23 June.

Professor Kitchener was the first speaker of the day, addressing his counterparts from the UK’s most prestigious Universities about the dynamic new Public Value approach taken by the School.

In late 2015, Professor Kitchener publicly articulated the School’s Public Value strategy to an audience of academic, business and policy stakeholders. This bold new commitment to delivering places social improvement as well as economic development at the heart of teaching and research and has seen the School become the world’s first Public Value Business School.

Present at the Public Value launch was Anne Kiem, Chief Executive of the Chartered Association of Business Schools. Ms Kiem provided an update at the Roundtable on current Chartered ABS business while the Deans in attendance were also introduced to the Chartered ABS Impact Toolkit.

Professor Kitchener said of the roundtable: “It was great to welcome the Russell Group Deans to Cardiff and Cardiff Business School. The gathering provides us all with an opportunity to discuss the challenges and the opportunities facing business schools and consider the innovative new ways of working that are beginning to emerge.
