Exploring Science and Technology Studies in Latin America

A three-day workshop in Brazil this week will explore Post-Colonial and Latin American Science and Technology Studies.
The event has been organised by Dr Luis Reyes-Galindo, School of Social Sciences, with Dr Tiago Duarte from the University of Brasilia as part of a Newton Mobility Grant from the British Academy.
Speakers include more than a dozen science and technology studies experts from across Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the US, with a keynote talk from Professor Sandra Harding (UCLA) on how Latin Americans co-produce their sciences and their social worlds.
The workshop takes place 18-20 May and will be streamed live online.
The Newton Mobility Grant is also allowing Dr Reyes-Galindo to jointly co-ordinate and deliver an advanced postgraduate course on Science and Technology Studies at the University of Brasilia, where he is a visiting scholar until July 2016.
Dr Reyes-Galindo was among a number of researchers from the School of Social Sciences to have won grants from the Newton Fund, an initiative designed to strengthen research and innovation partnerships between the UK and emerging knowledge economies.
