New era for International Relations at Cardiff University

In a move designed to establish the University’s Department of Politics and International Relations as a leading authority in the field, Cardiff has made a significant investment in new International Relations staff.

19 academics have joined the School of Law and Politics, making the Department of Politics and International Relations one of the largest in the UK.

The new appointments strengthen an already well regarded and internationally renowned team, bringing a wide range of new expertise to the department.

This major expansion will expose students to world-leading research-led teaching in areas across the discipline including nuclear politics and cold war history; cyber security; intelligence, terrorism and war crimes; gender and military affairs; feminism and critical global politics; colonialism, imperialism and resistance; the environment and global climate change.

“This is a highly unusual development – certainly at Cardiff and to my knowledge across the UK higher education sector – to see such an investment in Humanities and Social Sciences,” said Professor Dan Wincott, Head of the School of Law and Politics.

“I am delighted to be joined by a contingent of new staff of outstanding quality which will create the opportunity to develop new and stimulating degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the School.”
