Cardiff has been ranked as one of the top universities in the world in a number of different subjects, according to a recent international league table.
The 2014 QS World University Rankings by Subject reveals the top 200 universities in the world for 30 different disciplines.
It provides the only means available to prospective students of placing universities in order for their particular area of interest, rather than as whole institutions or broad faculty combinations.
18 of the subjects reviewed in the table and taught at Cardiff feature in the league table. They include: pharmacy and pharmacology; communication and media studies; and civil and structural engineering.
Since the last league table, three subjects have improved in ranking or are featured for the first time: Psychology – which is ranked in the top 50 in the table; Sociology; and Statistics & Operational Research.
Professor Tricia Price, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience and Academic Standards said: "Although this league table doesn't cover the entire spectrum of programmes that we deliver at Cardiff University, it does provide us with a good benchmark and shows that we have maintained or improved our position in 13 subjects - which is a testament to the outstanding work of our academic and professional support staff.
"Along with league tables, we also measure our success through the opinions of our students and research partners, the popularity of the University amongst prospective students, and the significant grants, awards and funding won by our researchers each year."
The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluated 3,002 universities and ranked 689 institutions in total. 130 million citation attributions were analysed and the provision of 10,639 programs was verified.
