Heritage Hunters

Are you a keen explorer? Are you ready to follow clues and discover the hidden mysteries of Cardiff Bay on a fun family trail? Then take up the challenge of the Heritage Scavenger Hunt.

Planned and run by undergraduates from the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, Heritage Hunters is a free drop-in event during half term for families with children.

Activities will involve 'I spy' trails for the under sevens and a Heritage Hunt taking in 10 exciting historical locations around Cardiff Bay for children aged over seven.

Alice Marsh, an undergraduate student in the School who has helped organise the event said: "We hope to inform and inspire families via the walking trail and the activities to become involved and learn more about the hidden history of their local area."

Heritage Hunters takes place on Tuesday 25 February from 10.30am-4pm 2014. The trails will be available from the Pierhead Building where there will also be activities for children once they return.

Heritage Hunters is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff Story Museum and is one of a number of activities organised by Cardiff undergraduates during half term.

Students are also offering Viking themed workshops at IKEA for four to nine-year-olds who will be able to try their hand at making a flat pack Viking ship, looking at Viking artefacts and designing their own Viking God or Goddess.

"Our aim is to educate children a little bit about the history and archaeology of the Vikings," said Cyrus Fateh, one of the student creators of the alternative-style project.

Workshops are free and take place on both Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February between 10am-5pm. Parents should accompany children at all times in the children's play area located next to the restaurant on the 2nd floor.

On Wednesday 26^th February, students will run a one day event - Archaeology is Rubbish!– at the Cardiff Story Museum between 10am-5pm. Children can learn about why archaeologists like rubbish and think about the rubbish of the future.
