Championing workplace diversity

Enfys – the University's network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans staff has been named Stonewall Cymru's Best Welsh Employee Network Group 2014.

Announced at a presentation ceremony last night the award recognises the integral role Enfys plays in the University's active commitment to diversity and creating a positive workplace culture for all lesbian, gay and bisexual employees.

Karen Cooke, Chair of Enfys said: "We are utterly thrilled to have been awarded Best Welsh Employee Network in the Stonewall Cymru 2014 Awards and are proud to continue to make a difference to staff and students at Cardiff University.

"We've got lots more we want to achieve and look forward to the year ahead."

The Enfys network provides a clear channel of communication for staff to raise issues for discussion with the University. As well as offering advice and support the network organises events and activities throughout the year and recently launched the Friend of Enfys scheme aimed at encouraging staff across the institution to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans colleagues.

Andrew White, Director of Stonewall Cymru added: "Enfys is an excellent example of a thriving employee network working closely with their employer to bring about noticeable change."

The award comes a week after the University was ranked in Stonewall's Top 100 UK Employers in recognition of its commitment to equality for LGBT+ staff.

Moving up 3 places since last year, Cardiff is now ranked 52^nd in an extremely competitive list which includes only four other UK universities. Cardiff is the leading Russell Group University in the list placing above both Liverpool and Sheffield.

Cardiff University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said: "This announcement confirms our commitment to diversity and to ensuring that Cardiff University is a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all employees.
