Four shortlisted for NUE Awards

Four undergraduates from Cardiff Business School have been shortlisted for National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards for the second year running.

The announcement means the School equals its highest number of shortlisted students to date and account for 4 of the 20 hopefuls nominated for student awards at the national event.

Their achievements continue the School’s strong track record at the NUE awards, which saw Daniel Hengstenberg, William Partridge and Katherine Kirkup pick up awards and commendations in 2020, Callum Mcintosh and Lily-Rose shortlisted in 2019, and Elizabeth Pescud and Ryan Hale take home awards in 2018.

A year like no other

This year, Chantelle Hunt, who studies the BScEcon Economics with a Professional Placement Year programme, is shortlisted in the Best Placement award category.

Currently in her fourth and final year, Chantelle completed her Professional Placement Year at Unilever.

The shortlisting is recognition of the genuine and measurable impact Chantelle made, in a year like no other, following work and life challenges wrought by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Also shortlisted are classmates Sam Fisher, Rebecca Parnall and Cara Sawyer, who all study Cardiff Business School’s BSc Business Management with an Integrated Work Placement programme.

The trio make up three of the five students in the running for the Best Intern award category, which celebrates intern students who have exceeded expectations and made a significant impact to their team, department, or the business as a whole.

Cara will be looking to repeat the success of last year’s winner, Daniel Hengstenberg, following her Integrated Work Placement at Mercateo. While Rebecca will hope that her achievements at Transport for Wales, and Sam for his efforts at Delio Wealth, will be enough to secure the award.

An excellent track record

Professor Rachel Ashworth, Dean of Cardiff Business School, said: “We’ve got an excellent track record of success at the NUE Awards thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students and, of course, our employer partners who host them.

The winners will be announced at the virtual Awards Ceremony on Thursday 25 February 2021, 3-5pm.
