Grangetown novice runners complete the IAAF Cardiff World Half Marathon
29 Mawrth 2016
The IAAF Cardiff World Half Marathon was a University sponsored event that took place on Saturday 26th March 2016 with thousands of runners taking part including 50 novice runners from Grangetown.
The runners were awarded free places by Community Gateway, one of the University's five flagship engagement projects, which aims to encourage a more healthy and active Grangetown. Alongside offering free places in the race the project supported the runners with a full training programme and access to an exclusive running support network at Cardiff University.
Community Gateway's Facilities and Partnership Manager Ali Abdi was one of the runners from Grangetown that completed the race:
"I'm still on a high from the atmosphere on the day - it was absolutely amazing and I can't believe I did it! I'm definitely going to continue with my health and fitness now and train for the next half marathon in October."
Community Gateway are now planning a celebration event at the Grange Bowls Pavilion in April to bring all the Grangetown runners together to celebrate their achievement and to continue the discussion about the creation of a Grangetown running club.
