School welcomes Botswanan tour party

Postgraduate Teaching Centre plays host to Botswanan rugby team from prestigious private school

Students from the Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana, visited Cardiff Business School as part of a weeklong rugby, cultural and educational tour of England and Wales.

The tour party included LKC’s school's co-owner and Managing Director, two teachers, the rugby coach and 26 pupils who are currently studying A Level and IGCSE subjects. 

The Postgraduate Teaching Centre hosted a full day of activities for the tour group including an engaging mock lecture on business ethics from Dr Mike Marinetto and an interactive session in the real-world simulated Trading Room. Cardiff University’s Head of Rugby was also on hand to share tips and stories with the enthusiastic group.

Lunch was sponsored by the Wales branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Before leaving campus the tour party gathered outside of the Postgraduate Teaching Centre and sang Botswanan folk songs to thank the School for hosting them.

Their visit to the School is part of a programme of events which started in London with a visit to Westminster and Parliament. Travelling to Wales the tour party enjoyed a training session and lunch with the Wales Six Nations squad, meeting Captain Sam Warburton, Coach Warren Gatland and the backroom staff.

Founded in 2005, LKC is a coeducational private international school with around 550 pupils who follow the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level courses. It has a reputation for academic and sporting excellence with students achieving world best results for physics and development studies at IGCSE.  

Based in Mumbles for the duration of their visit, and being hosted by Neath RFC, the tour party will be visiting Bath Spa and Swansea Universities. There will be three rugby fixtures played against Gower College, Gowerton School and Bryncoch RFC.
