Music at the Museum

Our lunchtime concert series in the National Museum Wales begins on 5 February with a piano recital featuring works by Chopin, Liszt, Ireland and Debussy.

Professor Kenneth Hamilton, internationally-renowned pianist and Head of the School of Music, opens the series and also performs an additional concert on 12 February.

Professor Hamilton said: “We began this venture with the National Museum Wales last year and are looking forward to intensifying that collaboration with this new, expanded series. The Museum’s imposing yet intimate Reardon Smith Theatre is the perfect venue to listen to some of the best-loved pieces of classical music in a relaxed setting.”

The series will continue on 19 February when we welcome Australian pianist Olivia Sham. Olivia’s interests in nineteenth-century performance practice and repertoire are evident in her recently-released debut CD, Liszt: The Art of Remembering.

On 26 February the Iris Quartet will perform piano quartets by Frank Bridge and Brahms, and pianist Agnieszka Pluta will take to the stage on 11 March.

The series also gives us an opportunity to celebrate the talents of our own students. We will be holding a free student showcase on 4 March for postgraduate musicians to perform music close to their hearts.

All concerts take place at 1.05pm in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre, National Museum Wales, and last approximately 50 minutes.  Tickets are £5 per concert. Entry is free for students and under 18s.
