An exciting 2016 for Community Gateway

17 Rhagfyr 2015

Community Garden

2016 is going to be very exciting for Community Gateway with lots of events and projects lined up to take place throughout the year.

In January the Grangetown Community Garden project begins which aims to develop a community garden at the Grange Bowls Pavilion and create a green corridor between the Bowls Pavilion and Pentre Gardens. The project will involve two workshops a month to help residents learn new skills and help to transform the space.

The Community Gateway team are currently looking for local volunteers to sign up and be part of this exciting project with a view to continuing with the garden after the workshops end in March. For more information please contact Lynne Thomas: ThomasL90@cardiff.ac.uk

Community Gateway will also be running the first Schools Advisory Panel in January involving all the schools in Grangetown. The aim of the panel is to introduce schools to the project and to discuss opportunities to inform their curriculum and engage in research studies. It is hoped that the Advisory Panel will result in a close working relationship with local schools and encourage extensive involvement from children and staff in relevant Community Gateway projects.

2016 also sees the beginning of Community Gateway's year long temporary licence of the Grange Bowls Pavilion. Several very successful and diverse events have taken place at the pavilion so far such as Safety Week, A Mental Health and Wellbeing Day and a Winter Fayre. Upcoming events include a street choir event in March, a Love Grangetown workshop in April, a commemoration of WW1 in May and the annual Grangetown Festival in June.

Alongside all these exciting events Community Gateway will also be supporting the 2016 World Half Marathon and the 50 local Grangetown residents who have been recruited to run in the race in March including our very own Community Gateway Partnerships Manager, Ali Abdi.

For further information on any of these events or to get involved please contact communitygateway@cardiff.ac.uk

The Community Gateway Team would like to thank everyone for their continued support this year - we wish you all very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - we are looking forward to working with you in 2016!
