First Minister Mark Drakeford visits young people taking part in ‘Fit and Fed’ project

‘Fit and Fed’ is a project created by the StreetGames Network to tackle the isolation and hunger that some children can experience during the school holidays.

Supported by the Grange Pavilion Youth Forum, Cricket Wales, Wales Golf and Cardiff University Community Gateway project ‘Fit and Fed’ has been running free activities and offering nutritious meals and snacks to children during the school holidays at Channel View Leisure Centre.

The First Minister visited the project last week to meet some of the children and the volunteers involved in running the activities.

Ali Abdi, Partnerships Manager for the Cardiff University Community Gateway project said:

“Everyone involved in this project is passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people in Grangetown. This is a fantastic initiative put together by the StreetGames network to make sure that young people in the area don’t become isolated or experience hunger during the school holidays when school meals are not available. It is an amazing project and the Community Gateway team are very pleased to support it”

Community Gateway previously worked with Wild Thing Café, a plant-based café in Grangetown to host a Community Supper as part of the ‘Fit and Fed’ project. People that attended were provided with a hot meal that was made using the food grown in local allotments, helping to tackle food waste and feeding the community at the same time. The project has also received donations of healthy snacks and fruit juices from Crimestoppers Wales and Fearless.org.
